The Situation: Your dishes are coming out cloudy, or there’s a lingering "old water" smell. Before buying a new machine, try these 5-minute fixes.
1. The Filter Rescue
At the very bottom of your dishwasher is a cylindrical filter.
The Fix: Twist it out and rinse it under hot soapy water.
Why: This is where old food "sludge" collects and rots, causing smells and blocking drainage.

2. Clear the Spray Arms
Over time, tiny seeds or limescale block the small holes in the rotating arms.
The Fix: Pop the arms off (usually a simple click or unscrew) and poke a toothpick through the holes to clear debris.
Result: Better water pressure and cleaner plates.

3. The Natural Deep Clean
Skip the expensive chemical cleaners.
The Tip: Place a cup of white vinegar on the top rack of an empty machine and run a hot cycle. Halfway through, sprinkle a handful of baking soda on the floor of the machine.
Result: The vinegar breaks down grease; the soda handles the odours.
